Breaking Down With Noah Tanen

I tend to want to sleep in but lately, I’ve been trying to get myself out of bed. I’ll eat an orange or a slice of bread with fig jam.

If I don’t have time to get a French press going, I like to pop into a coffee shop. I’ve just freshly moved to New York, so I try a new spot every time.

I can’t find myself a refreshing espresso tonic anywhere in this town because it is so cold out. So I have been drinking delicious cortados.

I have really been enjoying boxing lately! I felt like I needed more movement in my life and a hobby that was unrelated to food! I try to go in the morning so I’m out and about already for whatever I have going on that day.

Today I am filming a recipe video for my TikTok and I know I need some mussels. I head right from the gym to shop around at seafood markets. I’m also, in the back of my mind, writing a menu for a future pop-up and needed a little inspiration.

I listen to Mitski on the subway ride home which puts me in a weird mood but now it is time to film! I try to time everything, so I have a finished plate when the light is best in my apartment. It does not always work out (it did not today). I do have the ring light as a backup.

We have moules frites lined up for today. I’ve just started working on the frites, I’ll move on to cleaning my moules. I love to spend an extended afternoon slowly cooking and it is a bonus that I get to film and share to process with people!

After I finish plating up, I’ll get some beauty shots. Of course, I eat this for dinner. I’ll try and get as much of this recipe written down and the video edited tonight as I can manage. It should be on TikTok, IG, and Substack within the week. After that, I’m throwing on an episode of The Sopranos and relaxing hard.
